Alright, if your restaurant is named after the very dishes you serve, you better get it right! Came here due to a long wait at our first choice in the heart of the tourist area.

First, let's talk salsa. I mean, I get it, you don't want to hear pinche gueros complain about how the salsa is too spicy for them,  but at least offer something more flavorful than pace "picante" bottled salsa. We're in Mexico for Christ sakes.

Second, let's talk about the fajitas. I ordered the chicken fajitas which came with the usual sides, tortillas, and the "sizzle" platter. The chicken wasn't well seasoned and couldn't tell what the hell the veggies were because they were black and charred beyond recognition. I think maybe it was onions and jicama? I mean, at least serve fresh veggies. It looked as if they kept reusing the veggies from other platters.

For the price and quality, do yourself a favor and find a nice taco stand outside. You'll save those pesos and get a better tasting, authentic meal.

Oh, Fajita Republic...  What happened?!  You were our first dinner restaurant we ate at on our inaugural visit to PV back in 2016 which we repeated again in 2017.  But come 2018, we almost didn't make it in during our one week stay.  Here's my updated story.

    ATMOSPHERE:
The always-fun and funky interior remains, yet the crowds seem to have dwindled which brought down the fun factor for us.  Eating in an almost empty restaurant is simply not exciting, regardless of the good food.

    FOOD:
    Caesar Salad - $5.00
Where do I start?  First off, this wasn't a traditional Caesar to me as the brownish, watery dressing tasted like balsamic vinegar.  Secondly, the cheese was grated too thick.  I like a creamy dressing with anchovy notes and finely grated or shaved Parmesan.  Pass.

    Fish Oaxaca - $10.00
Oaxaca is a southern area state of Mexico near the Central American border.  The melt-in-your-mouth fish was very, very moist and almost too flakey, but I loved it.  It was sautéed with shrimp and onions in a deliciously buttery Sherry-like sauce then possibly steamed.  My only gripe is that it was served atop a piece of tin foil which as you know doesn't work well with a metal fork coming into contact with it.  Instead of trying to preserve my dish right side up, I just dumped it upside down on my plate in order to not have metallic forkfuls of food.  The portion was a bit small but so was the price.  Highly recommended.

    SERVICE:
Here's where their biggest fault lies.  Waiter service was pretty good three years ago but sadly has slipped every year since to the point of complete inattentiveness this year.

    OVERALL:
A three star rating means it's still an okay place but we're highly unlikely to return.  New spots are popping up in the area so competition is becoming fierce.  Maybe we'll try again in a few years?

First meal in Puerto Vallarta,, wonderful food and great service , had a little trouble converting to Pesos and a little bit of a problem understanding the waiter, but that was my fault , they were great.
The surfing  ‍ cow was a surf and turf dish and was awesome , fish tacos were good ( as good as a fish can be in a taco) the guacamole was excellent.

I still really like this place, I really like the look of it.  The food is another plus it tastes really good.  Service is ok, not what it once was but ok if slow. Point off is for that and other changes.

Things like rate it down are that rather then side dishes for toppings for the nacho's they are now on the dish.  This means the juice for the pico soaks the chips making them. Soft and falling apart... also portions seem smaller...

On the plus side, nonalcoholic drinks came out cold not warm just with a side glass of ice.

In all, I will still be back, just not as often.   The last couple of trips I've eaten here 2 or3 times per trip.  This time once was enough.   Next trip...we will see if I come.

Four stars may be generous....I'm hoping my visit was an off day.   In this neighborhood, I'm not sure they can afford off days like that.  There are lots of great options for their price point and lower.  Past visits I remember back to eating here wishing I was back, I doubt that will be the case this time.
